Sommersemester 2013 im Studiengang ›Grafikdesign und Visuelle Kommunikation‹ an der ›HMKW‹, Campus Ackerstraße 76, Berlin und Campus Höninger Weg 139, 50969 Köln G3 Medientechnologie Die Beherrschung digitaler Systeme und Anwendungen wird heute berufsübergreifend erwartet, sei es zu administrativen oder zu produktiven Zwecken. Insbesondere akademisch Ausgebildete müssen, um konkurrenzfähig zu sein, solide IT-Kompetenzen besitzen. Das Modul führt daher in die theoretischen Grundlagen der Informationstechnologie und in die wichtigsten alltäglich nutzbaren digitalen Applikationen ein. M1 Grafik und Bild (Graphik Design) d.h. den manuell-analogen und maschinell-digitalen Arbeitstechniken und bildnerischen Gestaltungsprozessen annähern und praktisch anwenden. M4 Grafik in Raum und Umgebung Orientierung im Raum, Ausstellungskonzeption, Wayshowing/-finding Systeme: Wir beschäftigen uns mit den theoretischen Fragestellungen und praktischen Lösungswegen dieses Designbereichs. Die Inhalte des Moduls reichen von den Grundlagen der räumlichen Wahrnehmung und Gestaltung über die Einführung in didaktische Ausstellungstechniken bis zur Planung und Modellierung von Leitsystemen im öffentlichen Raum. Medienintegration Wir untersuchen mediale Entwicklungen des ›Zusammenwachsens‹ der Medien im Sinne einer Medienkonvergenz, aber auch die ›Integration‹ der Medien im beruflichen und privaten Alltag mit Fokus auf der Zusammenführung von Text-, Bild-, und Grafikdaten für die Herstellung von Printmedien. Qualitätssicherung Digitale Medienkomponenten mit geeigneten Geräten erfassen, mediale Daten übernehmen und die Qualität anhand von technischen Kennwerten und verwendeten Formaten bewerten. Mediale Daten unter Berücksichtigung produktions- und farbtechnischer Parameter einordnen. Ge- eignete Dateiformate auswählen, Daten abspeichern und weiterleiten. Farbmanagement: medienübergreifende Kalibrierung von Eingabe-, Verarbeitungs- und Ausgabegeräten. Daten unter Beachtung technischer und ökonomischer Aspekte übertragen, mögliche Probleme bei der Weitergabe von Daten beachten und ausschließen. Mediendaten workflowgerecht organisieren, Besonderheiten der Dateiverwaltung beachten.

Digital font technology makes it easier for end-users to do text processing, typesetting and layout without sacrificing the typographic quality and logical correctness of the text. Using digital fonts is getting easier since the last 30 years, but developing them is more complex. In this workshop we will start from just drawing letters, to provide an insight into a type designers needs to know about encoding, hinting, layout features and various parameters that need to be set inside of a font. Von einer witzigen Idee über eine gelungene illustrative Umsetzung, als Schrift lauffähig, mit sehr gutem Kerning. Die Abschlusspräsentation gab dehalb allen Grund für Applaus. Urteilen Sie selbst. In a short period of time the students exceeded expectations and developed outstanding fonts, both in terms of technical and design skill. There were witty ideas, successful illustration-based creations, fonts that flowed very well and ones with good kerning. Much well-earned applause was to be heard at the closing ceremony.
